One evening

... and a whole lot of fun

It’s been two weeks since we hosted a joint supper club with Homi Kitchen at Jusu Brothers, Notting Hill and we’re still buzzing everytime we think back to that evening!

It was a joy seeing Hong Kong & Singaporean flavours being brought to life together in one setting but really - the best part was seeing everyone having such a great time, reminiscing and sharing.

One of the main reasons why CHA DONG exists is due to community. It was never meant to be a business when we started, but a hobby, something we loved and wanted to share with the world.

Working with Megan from Homi Kitchen was just a really natural pairing for us, as we similarly started during lockdown, also hoping to bring a sense of familiarity, comfort and home.

We had a lot of fun putting together these menu items the event, which were all made in house by us including the milk bread for the prawn toast and ice cream:

  • Our first limited edition release of The Perfect Harmony, a Kopi x Milk Tea which we had a lot of fun testing & brewing

  • A special Hong Kong French Toast ice cream bar, made with two ice cream flavours (burnt butter and infused bread) sandwiched between two pieces of sable and golden syrup

  • Milk bread sesame prawn toast served with giga chilli mayo and a lychee & kaffir lime granita

There’s a story behind each of these dishes and how they play into Hong Kong and Singaporean food culture. For instance, lychee granita is a contemporary spin on the Hong Kong cafe classic lychee ice, whilst the lime is a nod to the popular lime juices found in Singapore hawker centres and gives the granita a bright, zesty finish.

These dishes worked so well with Homi Kitchen’s Hainanese chicken rice, DIY popiah and Hei Hei pepper char siu, and we are really proud of how it all came together at the end.

The event was also quite special as it marks 3 years since we took part in our very first supper club which was also in Notting Hill at Layla Bakery with Poon’s (a shout out to Amy for believing in us). Notting Hill was also where we first launched CHA DONG, from our home kitchen, so you can say we’ve come full circle!

A huge thank you again to everyone who came, it was a pleasure hosting you all and we may be doing more of these in the future so do keep an eye out and subscribe to our newsletter for more updates.
